The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
