Resurgent Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback the Russian player claimed his first championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.
The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with former trainer his previous coach.
Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and first on a hard court from spring of the previous year.
Success also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different events.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in that event in the past months.
His defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.
But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the last five games to go ahead.
The pair traded break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a third set.
He rescued four initial chances in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
