Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Leading Abusive Chants About Manager Wilder
The striker has joined the Championship side just half a year following instigating insulting songs directed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year spell at Elland Road concluded through agreement this past summer.
Among the player's final notable acts while at Leeds was to lead offensive chants about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities in April. Now, the one-cap England international will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Past History Between the Striker & the Manager
The pair had previous conflict before Leeds moved up to the top flight last season while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends and Moving Forward
Everything appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and respected him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that’s part and parcel of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
