Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his future following another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got significant support from the top,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Player Response

Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He added, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell such as this with outcomes like these.”

He stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”

“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, prove again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”

“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
